Becoming Jason Knapp

Born in the factory county of York, Pennsylvania. Completed undergrad at Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Social Studies Education in 2001. Started cooking in high school while working at Lee’s Drive In. Taught high school and middle school history until 2011 in eastern NC. Always enjoyed cooking especially around the holidays when I would make cookies with my parents. Moved to Nashville, North Carolina after getting married in 2011. Became a Past Master of Morningstar Lodge # 85 in 2017. When I was more active in the Masonic Lodge, I discovered that great food brings people around. I would cook for the large meetings and attendance would go up when I was cooking. People would even text on their phones when I was cooking to show up. Combined my love for charity work and food in 2017 by coordinating a pancake supper fundraiser for the North Carolina Masonic Home for Children. I retreated to a more private life in 2018, and didn’t cook for people anymore. In 2019, we had some friends over for dinner and entertained a celebrity and her band and was told that I made good pulled pork barbecue. In March 2020, I was bored and created my first video teaching people how to make French Onion soup. As my popularity online expanded, Harris Robinette Beef reached out and I became someone who used their products to teach people to use small, primarily NC businesses. Started a cooking show called Cooking a La Quarantine in 2020. Once the vaccines came out, I changed it to The Kitchen Goat as I also raise goats.  Currently expanding and supporting small businesses on the road.

Gift Cards for a Cause

Why Gift Cards?

So back in 2019, I was getting treatment for my hemachromatosis across from a woman that was getting chemotherapy (pre Covid) And she said she didn’t know if she was going to pay her co-pay or go to Dollar General to get groceries. That always stuck with me and resurfaced during Covid. I thought it was amazing that all these people were getting food in their vehicles from churches and nonprofits. Hunger is one of the basic problems which, according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, is a major source of hindering the development of a person. If basic needs are not met, one cannot grow spiritually, emotionally or stably. I’ve done some charity crazy stunts for other local organizations but in September 2021 I had a barbecue plate sale and raised $1500. I bought Food Lion gift cards not because they sponsor me (they don’t yet) but because most of the people in our area buy groceries from Food Lion. This year I decided to step up my charitable efforts while I’m still teaching folks about their food. I formed my 501C3 the Kitchen Goat Feeds Corporation. The goal of the Kitchen Goat Feeds is to raise money through events, fundraisers, and activities to buy groceries gift cards for cancer patients in Eastern North Carolina.

Made the front page - $4500 raised and counting!!! -

501(c)(3) approved. Looking sponsors for GoatFest April 15th 2023. See link below.

@OGDrainPour "Get with him.  We need more beauty, help, and compassion in this world...What he is doing is freaking amazing. I absolutely adore this man!"
